Why does Final Cut Library Opener not always know if a library's in use

In rare network configurations the method used by both Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Library Opener cannot correctly identify that a library is currently in use by another user.

When this happens, it's actually possible to open the library directly using Final Cut Pro with potentially disastrous results for your data!

We have worked hard to try to protect you from this eventuality. Most of the time we know when a library is in use or not, but if we detect a condition where we're not sure then we'll let you know, and you can check verbally with the user who might have it open before you open the library.

Note that if for some reason FCP closes a library badly, we'll detect these same ambiguous conditions even though the library really is closed. In that case you're quite safe opening the library.
